Do you know what ASOS sale return policy is? Well, you are at the perfect place to find the answer to such a question.
Back in 2019, ASOS came out with a controversial rule on its return policies that everyone (everyone that wasn’t an ASOS customer anyway), thought would be the end of the popular clothing retailer.
The decision was to cut the accounts of bulk buyers who returned the entire purchase.
So, what is ASOS sale return policy? ASOS allows customers 28 days from the date of delivery to make a return for a full refund and 29 to 45 days for a gift voucher. For those who make bulk orders, with no intention of keeping the items, ASOS will simply cut their account altogether.
While that last part was thought to be controversial on its announced inception, it actually has a lot of support.
ASOS discovered that many customers were purchasing massive, bulk orders to trigger the free shipping option and then returning everything but the one outfit they wanted.
Breakdown of the ASOS Sale Return Policy
Why mention this? Well, it applies to you and every new customer that joins the ranks of ASOS aficionados because ASOS manufactures a popular line of clothing. So, if you’re thinking of purchasing a bulk order, be careful you don’t trigger ASOS’ new rule.
ASOS is very generous with its return policy, providing customers with nearly a month to decide on whether or not their order is right for them. If you decide to return the item within that timeframe, ASOS will give you a full refund on your purchase.
They’ll also return it through the purchase method you used to buy the item.
Returns Outside of 28 Days
You can still return items to ASOS outside of 28 days. However, you won’t get a refund back to the original payment method.
Instead, for all items returned between 29 and 45 days from the date of delivery, ASOS will issue a gift voucher.
A gift voucher is essentially a gift card for spending with ASOS. The gift voucher’s value will match the amount of money you receive on the returns.
The refund method, whether it’s for items returned in under 28 days or items returned for a gift voucher, is issued within 14 days of ASOS receiving the return.

Additional Return Details
ASOS doesn’t offer any kind of exchange period or method. Receiving a gift voucher is as close as you will come to an exchange.
All returns are handled through the mail. If you return an item well outside of the 28-day and 45-day window, ASOS will return the item to you, through the mail, and charge you for the cost of shipping.
ASOS is very upfront and open about its return policy, which is something that not all online clothing retailers are very good at.
ASOS’ return policy is also pretty strict, like the above instance of charging customers for shipping costs on outdated returns.
While that may sound bad for new or interested potential customers, it’s straightforward and doesn’t undermine the popularity and quality of the merchandise that ASOS has on offer.
As fair and straightforward as its return policy is, ASOS does have a few exceptions to its overall return policy.
- Underwear: Regardless of whether you return underwear within the timeframe, if it lacks the hygiene seal or the labels
- Swimwear: The same rules that ASOS applies to underwear also apply to swimwear
- Face Coverings and Masks: Masks and face coverings are not returnable if the packaging seal is broken
- Final Sale: Any item that is purchased under the “Final Sale” label is not returnable in any way, shape, or form
- Pierced Jewelry: Cannot be returned if the seal is broken
- Face, Body, or Other Cosmetic Applications: Cannot be returned if the seal is broken on the item in question
As with everything in life, there are some potential exceptions to the rules for returning items. However, they’re potential. For instance, what if you pull the tags off of something, try it on, and decide you don’t like it?
There’s the possibility that ASOS will refund the order if you return the items with the removed tags in the package.
It’s “possible,” but not likely because ASOS is pretty clear about tag removal and there is nothing on its website that answers that hypothetical directly.
The best thing to do is try on the outfit and get used to the idea of never pulling the price tag off. That way, you ensure that you get the full refund instead of a potential headache on your hands, communicating back and forth with customer service.
How to Make a Return
To shop with ASOS, you have to have an online account. You can do guest orders but that makes everything more difficult in case you need to make a return.
It’s easier and completely free to create an ASOS account.
- Navigate to ASOS and login to your account
- You will see your latest order under the title “IT’S DELIVERED!”
- Select the “Create Return” option below that title and picture
- Select a reason for returning the item in the dropdown menu
- Enter any additional information (optional)
- Confirm your selection
- ASOS will generate a pre-filled form and shipping label
- Print the shipping label out
- Go to your nearest UPS and ship the item back to ASOS
Per the ASOS return policy information, you will receive your refund in 14 days after ASOS receives your returned item package.
They’ll refund your money through the same method you used to pay. For credit and debit cards, the money will go back to your account.
For PayPal users, the refund will go directly into your PayPal account. If you made your purchase with a gift card, the refund will go to your ASOS account as a credit towards any future purchases made there.
Bottom Line
ASOS made a pretty controversial change to their return policies for those making bulk orders and returning all but one item just to avoid the shipping costs.
Fortunately, this doesn’t affect their 28-day return policy or the 29-45 day return for gift voucher policy.
Including the exceptions, ASOS has a pretty straightforward return policy that’s generous, considering you have nearly a month to make a decision on a product and only after you’ve received it.
