Academy Sports’ return policy shows Academy Sports + Outdoors’ dedication to ensuring customer happiness and keeping our costs low daily.

Within 60 days of the transaction, Academy grants refunds using the original payment method. All reimbursements from Academy for returned goods must be in the same currency as the initial payment. Original purchase receipts are necessary for cash returns and returned products must be resealable. 

For transactions made with money orders or checks, customers will receive cash refunds; for items bought with credit or debit cards, they will receive a credit to the proper card; and for items bought with PayPal, Apple Pay, or other recognized payment methods, they will receive a credit to the correct account.

Academy Sports Store Purchase Returns

Any Academy shop will accept returns of anything you’ve bought there for a refund, credit, or exchange in the following ways:

  1. Purchase receipt: Academy will provide you with a reimbursement of the sales price in the original manner of payment or an equal exchange of the goods if you provide a valid purchase receipt.
  2. Gift receipt: Academy will reimburse your purchase amount through store credit or an equal swap of the item(s) if you present a valid gift receipt.
  3. No receipt: Academy will try to confirm the transaction if you don’t have a valid receipt and the purchase was done with a debit or credit card. You will get a reimbursement of the cost amount in the original purchase or an equal exchange of the goods if Academy confirms the transaction. Academy will provide you with a merchandise credit equivalent to the lowest amount the item has sold for in the last 90 days or an equal exchange of the product if Academy cannot verify the transaction. Customers must provide a valid piece of government-issued picture identification to return an item without a receipt.

Despite the presence of a legitimate packing slip or receipt, Academy has the right to restrict returns or exchanges and rigorously monitors returns for deception and misuse.

Academy Sports App Purchase Returns

The following are how you can return anything you bought from academy.com or a mobile app for a refund, product credit, or exchange:

  1. In-store with a packing slip: Your packing slip is your receipt if you bought goods from academy.com or a mobile application. You may also get a copy in the Order Status area on the mobile app. If you provide an approved packing slip, Academy will issue you a reimbursement in the original mode of payment, an even exchange of the item(s), or a return of the cost price, less any other academy.com costs (unless you are qualified to get a reimbursement of such charges).
  2. In-store without a packing slip: Academy will try to assist you in getting a copy of a packing slip if you don’t have one. If Academy confirms the transaction, Academy will issue a refund in the original mode of payment, an even exchange of the item(s) minus any other academy.com or mobile app costs (unless you are qualified to obtain a reimbursement of such charges). Academy will provide you with a merchandise credit equivalent to the lowest amount the item has sold for in the last 90 days or an equal exchange of the product if they cannot verify the transaction. Customers who want to return an item without a packing slip must provide approved government-issued picture identification (ID).
  3. Mailing with packing slip: Please complete the packing sheet with any necessary details and include it in the return box. After receiving and reviewing the returned goods, Academy will offer reimbursements. For help returning an item that needs unique or large-scale shipping, get in touch with customer care. Online purchases picked up in person cannot be returned by package or carrier; they must be returned in person.

Exceptions for Special Items Returns

Certain suppliers, merchants, and governmental organizations could need different return procedures. For help, speak to an Academy staff or speak to customer service.

  • Firearms: All firearms transactions, except those from brands that Academy sells exclusively, are final. Customers must return damaged or faulty guns to the maker for warranty service or claims.
  • Ammunition: All ammunition transactions are final, excluding the brands Academy sells exclusively. Customers must return damaged or faulty ammunition to the supplier for warranty service or claims.
  • Firearm accessories: Customers must return damaged or faulty goods to the seller for warranty services or claims since all purchases of exploding binary targets, smokeless powder, and smokeless fuel are final.
  • Bows: All sales of bows and crossbows are final, and any damaged or faulty bows or crossbows must be returned to the maker for warranty service or claims.
  • Boats: You cannot return a boat, kayak, canoe, or trailer if you bought it, obtained an MSO, and have a registered title. You can return the item with the MSO if you’ve got an MSO for it but have not yet registered the title.
  • Outdoor motors: Outboard motor sales are final, and any damaged or faulty outboard motors must be returned to the maker for warranty service or claims.
  • Items using gasoline: Buyers must return any faulty gasoline-powered items to the supplier for warranty service or claims since all purchases of gasoline-powered items are final.
  • Softball and baseball bats: You can return a softball or baseball bat you bought to Academy for an exchange or a refund if you haven’t taken it out of the original packaging. You must send the bat back to the supplier for warranty repairs or claims if you have taken it out of its original packing and discovered damage or a fault.
  • Software: Software can be returned for reimbursement of the sales cost or an equal exchange of the product if it has not been used and the original packaging has not been opened. Software may only be exchanged for the same item if damage or a defect were discovered after you opened the original packing.
  • Gift cards: Gift cards can be used to purchase goods, including in services at every Academy location and goods on academy.com and Academy mobile apps. Academy gift cards cannot be exchanged for credit or cash and cannot be replaced if they are lost, altered, or stolen unless doing so is required by state law. Gift cards with balances below a specific threshold may be exchanged for cash in several jurisdictions. For further details, consult the legislation in your state. Customers can return gift cards for a refund of the purchase price if they haven’t been used, as long as they provide a valid packing slip or receipt and a valid government-issued picture ID (ID).
